CAVEC Jackson County AL Amateur Radio License Exams!

This in-person exam session starts at 9:00AM Central.

The $5 fee covers an opportunity to take every license exam (Technician Class, General Class, and Amateur Extra Class). You may retake a failed exam at no extra charge, at the discretion of the VE team.

We prefer cash, but also take Venmo and CashApp. We do not accept payments ahead of time.

You must register for the session through HamStudy. You must also get an FCC Registration Number (FRN). Click here for help getting your FRN. We recommend you do both prior to the session. Please come early if you plan to do either at the session.

Required items:

  • A valid government-issued photo ID (e.g. a driver's license, military ID, or passport)
  • Your FRN if you are not licensed.
  • Any current CSCEs that have not yet shown up in the FCC database (this is uncommon).

Recommended items:

  • Pencil with eraser
  • Calculator with all memories and formulas cleared
  • Scratch paper

We can help you with everything above at the session except the ID and CSCEs. We recommend you take and consistently pass practice exams on hamstudy.org before coming in.

Cell Phones, Tablets and other Personal Electronic Devices must be silenced and put away during the exam session.

Notice: The FCC charges a $35 fee for new applications, renewals and vanity call sign requests as of April 19th, 2022. The fees must be paid directly to the FCC within ten days of your application being submitted by the CAVEC. Failure to do so will result in your application being dismissed. Upgrade applications are not charged the $35 fee.

Special Needs Accommodation: If you cannot take the exam in its standard written form, or at our regular location, we will do our absolute best to provide an alternative testing situation. However, please be advised that we probably will NOT be able to accommodate you on a walk-in basis at one of our regular test sessions. Please contact us ahead of the exam session you plan to attend and we will work out a plan to offer you an exam session that takes your needs into account.

We strive to create an inclusive and safe environment to support your success. We hope to be a positive part of your amateur radio experience. Please feel to contact us if you have any questions or concerns: click here
